The Law and Technology Society (LTech) is one of the student run committees, actively engaged in promoting research, awareness and scholarship in the field of Technology Law. In furtherance of its mandate, the Committee regularly organises various lectures, panel discussions, conferences, competitions etc. at the national level. ‘Consilience’ is its flagship event.

About Consilience
‘Consilience’- is the annual conference organised by LTech on a contemporary theme dealing with the interface between law and technology. It is an entirely student-run event. Select speakers from diverse backgrounds including legal experts, policy-makers and industry stakeholders address delegates on issues earmarked for them after intensive research. There are 3 sessions spread over a day with 3-4 panellists, 1 moderator and 1 student speaker (selected through an abstract submission process) for every session. Consilience focuses exclusively on themes related to the interface of law and technology – the only conference of its kind in India. The quality of academic debate and discussion at the conference has always been commendable. With its unique blend of legal and technical knowledge on a common platform, Consilience provides the ideal launch pad for creative and pragmatic solutions. Since its inception, Consilience has been unparalleled in terms of the sheer magnitude of legal input that goes into the event. At Consilience, the primary endeavour is to address the needs and concerns of the various stakeholders, focussing more on the practical rather than a mere theoretical analysis of issues. The Conference provides a platform for some of the brightest minds to come together and deliberate on the issues involved. Apart from making an effective contribution towards a more comprehensive understanding of the subject, we envisage this exchange of ideas leading up to a recommendation paper putting forth certain recommendations pertaining to the theme for the benefit of various governments.

Previous editions of the Conference have thrown light on contemporary issues of importance such as:

  • Legal Issues Pertaining To Cloud Computing
  • Legal Aspects of Business Process Outsourcing
  • Biotechnology and the Law
  • Internet Intermediary Liability in India
  • Free/Open Source Software (FOSS)
  • Data Protection and Cyber Security in India
  • Net Neutrality
  • Open Access and IP
